PR06 INCYBER AI as a driving force in influence campaigns Impacts and implications
Cognitive security is becoming one of the most critical yet overlooked domains of cybersecurity. As generative AI advances, influence operations have become highly scalable and cost-effective, making it easier for malign actors to manipulate public opinion and decision-making. Recent cases of election interference in the U.S., Georgia, Moldova, and Romania, along with campaigns like Doppelgänger, demonstrate how AI is amplifying cognitive threats and transcending borders, endangering societies worldwide.
This session will explore the AI-driven shift in cognitive warfare, drawing on OpenMinds’ experience in conducting over 380 counter-influence campaigns. Sviatoslav will explain how labor-intensive operations have evolved into automated, scalable attacks, examine how confirmation bias in social media algorithms facilitates large-scale cognitive influence, and share insights on building cognitive resilience in modern hybrid warfare.
