The quantum leap: accelerating the shift to post-quantum cryptography for global security

While current encryption methods are virtually impossible for traditional computers to decipher, the American agency NIST considers it urgent to have all US administrations ready for the forthcoming migration of RSA to the new NIST Quantum Safe compliance standards. Many people in Asia, some European countries and North America now consider that quantum computers will be able to quickly and easily decrypt conventional encryption algorithms, putting sensitive data at great risk: hence the impact in terms of our ability to respond internationally to this threat. Quantum technologies, including quantum computing, have a promising future in terms of their virtuous uses if they are integrated in time, but are also a threat to data security. How can we prepare for this quantum revolution? How can we guarantee a “smooth/on-time” transition to post-quantum cryptography, while ensuring interoperability with existing systems and protocols? How could NIST already in the summer of 2024 develop, select and confirm standards for post-quantum cryptography algorithms capable of withstanding future attacks from quantum computers?

Montreal Convention Center hosted a major cybersecurity event on October 25 & 26, 2024, centered around the theme « Cybersecurity in the age of AI ».
