TR02 INCYBER From Prevention to Protection Cyber Insurance as a Comprehensive Solution to Strengthen
The cyber insurance market, although stable in collected premiums and showing a significant improvement in claims, is at a turning point. Large corporations demonstrate a high level of maturity. Mid-sized companies (ETIs) have made significant progress in recent years, notably driven by NIS 2. However, many small businesses (TPEs/SMEs) remain extremely vulnerable: they are underinsured, insufficiently aware of risks, and increasingly targeted by cyberattacks, sometimes serving as entry points to larger organizations.
One of the main challenges is to fully integrate cyber insurance into the offering for small businesses, placing prevention and assistance at the core of proposed solutions. This lack of coverage is particularly concerning given that the risk for these companies is especially high: a cyberattack can lead to significant financial losses or even bankruptcy. Yet, despite these threats, many remain poorly equipped, often due to a lack of information, the perception of high costs, or unawareness of existing solutions.
It is therefore essential to strengthen awareness and support these businesses in improving their resilience. Better prevention, combined with simple cybersecurity hygiene measures, could significantly reduce claims. How can we promote this cultural shift and encourage the adoption of best practices? How can cyber insurance be made more appealing to small businesses? And above all, how can we ensure that the lack of protection and support does not put these companies at risk?
